Headed by Alvin Siekert, the Mission of
Al & Friends is to lift up members of the community who suffer from the
most pressing challenges: hunger, homelessness, and poverty. Our organization
thrives because we are an effective social service provider, a consistent
presence, and a growing local network of dedicated citizens built from within
the community that we serve. By
serving thoughtfully planned meals regularly, Al & Friends helps adds
dignity to people's lives, nurtures benevolent values within our community,
and invites everyone to get involved in doing something that matters.
The Big Idea
“Sunday Breakfast for the Hungry,” run by
Al Siekert and friends (now officially called Al and Friends), has served
over 15,000 breakfasts to the Peninsula’s hungry and homeless in the last
eight years. Hundreds of men and women, young and old, rely on these meals
each week. While many local cities and businesses have generously provided
food, equipment and a place to cook, they still have to get that food to the
people who need it, and transportation costs, such as fuel and vehicle
repairs, are high. To continue offering Sunday breakfasts for the hungry, Al
and Friends needs a fuel and maintenance fund for their two vehicles.
Monterey County Gives! funds will keep them on the road, making sure hot food
goes out each and every Sunday to those who need it the most.
I’ve been dealing with Al for three
years. He has been my strength, my backbone and my sanity. I reward him for
helping all the rest of these helpless people out here that are struggling to
come up afloat. And I would appreciate if you guys donate every little small
thing, it’s the richest thing you can do to help him stay strong.
