The Big Idea

Baktun12 (B12) is an East Salinas theater and media arts organization committed to the cultivation of oral histories and community actions that empower working families throughout the Salinas Valley and beyond. B12 wants to continue to serve, educate and create with the diverse group of individuals that make up Salinas Valley through their new program, B12 LIVE! The project, a podcast, first came to be during the pandemic as a way to give various voices from the community a platform to speak on different subjects and a way to be heard during social distancing. B12 LIVE! continues to provide entertainment, community insight, space for reflection and healing, and political updates.

La Cortina de la Lechuga was amazing. I feel like I had some sense of awareness regarding the housing issue here in Salinas, but I was able to learn a lot from the presentation of the stories as well as the real-life advocacy that happened. I’m inspired to really look into this issue more, and explore what it looks like in the country as a whole and become more informed so that I can inform others around me as well.
