Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monterey Bay

Mission

To create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

The Big Idea

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monterey Bay creates and sustains one-to-one mentoring relationships for youth ages 6–18. Through our community- and school-based programs, we match youth in Monterey County with trained adult mentors who provide consistent, caring support. We recently expanded our services countywide and now serve Salinas, Seaside, Marina, Greenfield, and rural communities.

In Monterey County, many children face mental health challenges without adequate support systems. At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we uphold values of commitment and compassion, recognizing the transformative power of mentorship in their lives. By fostering meaningful relationships, we help youth navigate life’s hurdles—addressing social isolation and building confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

Through these trusted connections with adult mentors, we empower youth to overcome obstacles and envision a brighter future. With your support, we can meet the rising demand for youth mentorship and ensure every child has someone in their corner.

How does your organization benefit Monterey County?

We provide Monterey County youth with trusted mentors who offer consistency, emotional support, and opportunity. Our services reach communities across the county, especially in Salinas, Seaside, Greenfield, and Marina—areas where youth often face systemic barriers to success. Our matches help youth build confidence, increase school engagement, and form stronger relationships with family and peers. We also host enrichment outings—from water excursions on the Bay to hiking local trails —and provide resources to families. Since expanding our reach into Monterey County in 2024, we’ve already supported dozens of local youth and are committed to serving hundreds more with your help.

I’m constantly in awe of how much I personally get out of being a mentor in the BBBS program and being matched to such a wonderful young woman. You find time for what brings you joy, and [my Little] Brenda certainly does that for me. I hope I do the same for her as well.
