The Big Sur Health Center is a nonprofit that exists to serve the health and wellness needs of the Big Sur community by providing quality healthcare through traditional and complementary approaches that are culturally sensitive and patient-centered. It is our quest to be a lifelong healthcare partner for all in Big Sur, regardless of need or ability to pay.
The Big Idea
Since March of this year, Big Sur Health Center has been in high gear, working to address the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic. In spite of decreased on-site patient visits (and with that, decreased revenues), the nonprofit health center has remained at full staff in order to meet the needs of its patients through telephone and telehealth appointments. In addition, the center assisted the businesses and greater Big Sur community by setting up a Covid-19 testing site and providing
up-to-date, reliable information regarding the pandemic in the rural region the health center serves. Because of the similar symptoms of Covid-19 and flu, the approaching flu season will add to the complexity of diagnosis and will require even greater
diligence and patient monitoring.
The Health Center has been there for three generations of my family when in need and also for preventive care. They were compassionate, kind, generous and caring for my 90 year-old grandma through the last stage of her life and until the very last breath she took.
