Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County

Mission

Our mission is to inspire and empower the youth of Monterey County to realize their full potential to become responsible, healthy, productive and successful citizens.

The Big Idea

A child cannot focus on their education if they are hungry, unhealthy, or unsafe. Your gifts help us serve over 100,000 nutritious meals every year, including breakfast, lunch and snack during spring, summer and fall breaks. The Clubs serve fresh local produce, have fully stocked salad bars, and members grow fresh fruits and vegetables in the Clubs’ gardens. Beyond nutrition, you help us address the physical, mental, and social well-being of our children through programs like daily fitness activities, year-round sports leagues, cooking classes, and counseling services. Special events such as the annual Gang Prevention Summit support the County’s youth in making positive choices that lead to suppressing violence and decreasing gang membership. And let’s not underestimate the power of giving kids the time to simply play and have fun in a safe place – that happens every day at the Clubs!

"Being poor was a defining factor in my life. Days of when the electricity would be shut off or late rent notices on the door. There were few days where my brother and I were at home since we didn’t have much food, my dad cooked up leftover tortillas and put cheese on top, during the time I was eating it I couldn’t but push back tears because of the struggle we were facing. I could not imagine what my dad felt at the moment because he couldn’t do anything to make it better. I am resilient because even in the face of poverty and divorced parents, I found an avenue where I was able to express myself creatively. I found community at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County. I found people that every single day motivate me to rise above my circumstances.”
