Brighter Bites, Monterey County

Mission

To create communities of health through fresh food.

The Big Idea

In Monterey County, where over 40% are food insecure, Brighter Bites combines: access to 20lbs of fresh fruits and vegetables weekly, for under-resourced communities; nutrition education, and a thorough set of data collection and evaluation to meet the nutrition security of children.

Partnering with Pre-K - 6th grade schools, when eating habits are still forming and where food security is linked to academic success, the core program offers nutrition education and produce distribution program: to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables with 20lbs distributed at school pick-up weekly for each family ;classroom education and “fun food experiences” that make eating nutritiously enjoyable..

To achieve our mission of creating a community of health through fresh food, BBMC collaborates with; school districts; major agricultural companies; health care providers, including Montage Health, Salinas Valley Health; not for profits and community partners.

Your gift will directly support our programming, making Monterey County shine brighter!

Our students learn about healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle from Kindergarten onwards. Additionally, our community families benefit from the 20lb weekly box of fresh fruit and vegetables that children have learned about at school. We are bridging the school-to-home connection, seeing more families cooking and eating together and that is more meaningful for deeper learning.
