Carmel Valley Community Youth Center Inc.

Mission

The specific and primary purposes of this corporation are to provide, promote, construct, maintain, and operate premises, facilities, structures, and equipment in Carmel Valley, California, to be used for the education of youth in connection with athletic, social, recreational, cultural, and civic matters, and the promotion of such activities among the youth of Carmel Valley; the premises, facilities, structures, and equipment may also be used by any organized adult civic or community group, however, priority shall always be given to youth organizations and their activities.

The Big Idea

The Carmel Valley Community Youth Center (CVCYC) has entered a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Tatum's Garden Foundation to build a fully accessible playground in Carmel Valley. Only the second fully accessible playground in Monterey County, Tatum's Treehouse will feature an all-volunteer- build model that will engage community members and families. Similar to Tatum's Garden located in Salinas, Tatum's Treehouse will provide inclusive play opportunities for all youth in Monterey County and the surrounding areas. Though CVCYC is already home to a playground, it is in dire need of a complete redesign and Tatum’s Treehouse is an opportunity to create something meaningful for generations to come. Our two organizations share the goal of transforming the existing, decades-old playground into a safe space for all children to feel welcomed and included.

I am excited to have Tatum's Treehouse in Carmel Valley. I love Tatum's Garden and I can't wait to have something similar close to home. I think that we need more inclusive play for all children and more accessible playgrounds for their grownups, too.
