The Mission of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Monterey is to provide service to people in need, to advocate for social justice, and to call other people of good will to do the same.
The Big Idea
Catholic Charities provides help to whomever needs it in Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and San Luis Obispo counties. During these times of uncertainty they are focused on providing disaster relief to individuals and families who have lost their jobs and are not eligible for unemployment or other public benefits. They need support for their operating expenses to continue serving those who are left with no other means of keeping their families housed and fed, and utilities running. This fund will also help provide vital assistance with food and health care insurance applications, immigration and citizenship services, and connections to mental health services and other community resources.
My wife and I have always worked and have never asked for help. But because the restaurants and hotels had to close during the pandemic, we both lost our jobs. After working 12 years in a local restaurant I was let go. We don’t qualify for the stimulus check, unemployment, or any other public program, so we are left with no jobs or money to pay for rent or buy food for our kids. Thanks to Catholic Charities and the generous people who support this program, we can now afford buying groceries and stay in our homes for one more month.
