Chamber Music Monterey Bay (CMMB)

Mission

Through its remarkable 54 years, Chamber Music Monterey Bay’s mission has been steadfast: to preserve the tradition of classical chamber music performance and to explore creatively the evolution of the art form. CMMB offers 5 concerts in a 6-month season, featuring beloved master works and exciting new compositions. CMMB offers pre-concert lectures, visiting artist programs at local schools and senior living facilities, and free and discounted tickets for students, low-income individuals, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities so that everyone may enjoy and benefit from CMMB’s concerts.

The Big Idea

Throughout its 54 years of operation, Chamber Music Monterey Bay’s (CMMB) mission has been to preserve the tradition of classical chamber music performance and to explore creatively the evolution of the art form. CMMB offers performances at Sunset Center, at schools, via online streaming and on NPR affiliate KAZU so that everyone may enjoy unique performances by first-class ensembles from around the world. During shelter-in-place, CMMB shifted its focus to virtual performances, partnering with the Chamber Music Society of Detroit to offer audiences uplifting entertainment and to support these talented musicians who performed via streaming media. CMMB is working with world-class chamber music ensembles across the country to schedule performances via streaming media, and also, as circumstances allow, at Sunset Center for live 2021 concerts. Their goals are to continue to engage our audiences with lively, informative pre-concert talks by a renowned musicologist and to continue broadcasting concerts.

I’ve been a season ticket holder at Chamber Music Monterey Bay for almost 20 years and I love it! I look forward to every performance, and the way my spirits are lifted by the most beautiful music in the world, played by some of the best musicians on the planet. What I love is the care with which the ensembles are chosen and the thought that goes into the music selections for each performance. I love the balance CMMB strikes between the classics and more modern and contemporary music that is both accessible and lovely. My musical taste has become broad and rich thanks to my involvement with CMMB, and the pre-concert lectures by Kai Christianson are a precious gift.

We’re In This Together

Nonprofits are more important that ever in this trying time. Monterey County Gives! was created to support the local nonprofit community's Big Ideas (and programs). And thanks to your participation and generosity, Monterey County Gives! raised over $5.3 million for 163 local nonprofits in 2019.

MCGives! has now raised and contributed over $27 million dollars since its inception ten years ago. That’s astounding. And wonderful. Thank you to all our Partners, Sponsors, nonprofit Board Directors, staff and volunteers — and each of our 4,902 donors. We did it, together.

The 2020 Campaign begins November 12.
