Chamber Music Monterey Bay

Mission

Chamber Music Monterey Bay exists to preserve the tradition of live classical chamber music performance and to creatively explore the evolution of the art form through concerts with world-class ensembles, commissions of new compositions, community outreach and education programs.

The Big Idea

During our 2018-9 season, CMMB will present five world-class ensembles in concert: Van Kuijk Quartet, Music from Copland House, Borromeo String Quartet with Richard Stoltzman, Catalyst Quartet, and the Montrose Trio. Most of these ensembles will also participate in Chamber Music Monterey Bay's "Visiting Artists Outreach" program and perform at local schools and residential care facilities in our community. At each concert, our "Kids Up Front & Free" program sets aside 48 seats in the front rows for children who receive free admission and their adult companions, who receive discounted ticket prices, for a truly up close and personal experience. To foster the growth of diversity in our audience, CMMB collaborates with Youth Orchestra Salinas, Monterey Peninsula School District, Carmel High School, Boys and Girls Clubs in Seaside and Salinas, L.I.F.E. is for Everybody in East Salinas, Monterey Bay Charter School, Youth Music Monterey County, Orchestra in the Schools, The Village Project in Seaside, Marina Youth Arts, First Tee, and the Special Education and Migrant Education Programs in Salinas.

"It was better than Disneyland!" - a Monterey Bay Charter School student in Pacific Grove. His mom called to tell CMMB that after he returned home from CMMB's Visiting Artists Outreach activity with the Miro Quartet.
