To support local CERT programs, build public awareness about emergency preparedness, and promote the community's capacity to respond to natural and man-made disasters and emergencies.
The Big Idea
CERV is one of 24 community-based organizations selected for the statewide Listos (Ready) California emergency preparedness campaign. That means empowering Californians with information and resources they need to be prepared for a range of emergencies, from wildfires and earthquakes to shelter-in-place orders and power outages. CERV works closely with 15 nonprofit organizations that serve the county’s most vulnerable residents, supporting people most at-risk who need to know how to plan and respond. That included all ages, language groups, people with disabilities and people who face significant socioeconomic challenges and also need tools to be prepared for disasters.
The day-to-day struggles of raising a child with special needs, putting food on the table, and working long hours for low pay leave little time for advance planning. The Community Emergency Response Volunteers of the Monterey Peninsula have allowed us to develop tailored messaging and innovative educational approaches that work with our population -- especially those who live in remote areas and for whom English is not their primary language.
