The Epicenter exists to empower at risk and system involved youth ages 14-24 to flourish by connecting them to community resources that provide opportunities for equity and hope in order to improve youth outcomes in Monterey County.
Foster Success is a transformative short-term job experience program designed to empower foster youth aged 16-24 with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to thrive in the workforce. The program provides participants with hands-on work experience, mentorship, and professional development opportunities in a supportive environment.
Epicenter of Monterey provides services to all of Monterey County but this specific project is to support foster youth in Monterey County.
The Epicenter was not only my first job but also a significant turning point in my personal and professional growth. Through this experience, I gained a wide range of professional skills, as teamwork, time management, and public speaking. Learning how to collaborate effectively with my peers taught me the value of communication, compromise, and leadership. Public speaking, in particular, was a challenge at first, but over time I became more comfortable expressing my thoughts clearly and confidently in front of others–skills that continue to help me in both academic and professional settings. Working at The Epicenter has truly been a stepping stone in my life. It not only provided me with practical job experience, but also boosted my confidence and helped me discover my voice. Being part of the Youth Council has had a lasting impact on my journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for it.
