First Night

Mission

The mission of First Night Monterey, Inc. is to bring families together and unite our community in all its diversity through the visual and performing arts, to foster the public’s appreciation of visual and performing arts and to celebrate families and community through workshops, festivals and the New Year‘s Eve celebration. First Night Monterey, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization; programs are designed to appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds and to broaden and deepen public appreciation of the arts. The centerpiece of First Night Monterey is our alcohol-free celebration on New Year's Eve in downtown Monterey.

The Big Idea

Bringing the arts to the youth of Monterey and Greenfield! Each year First Night brings art education through our outreach program in Greenfield located in the heart of the Salinas Valley and the migrant farming community and in Monterey at our Archer Park Studio. Our Mission is to bring the arts to all and In the Summer and Fall we conduct free art camps! Your donation will bring the arts to a community who are the most underserved in the County and help single parents with scholarships to our Monterey Camps! Our art camps include instruction by professional teaching artists, and an art show at the end of each camp! In Greenfield, our camp is located at the Greenfield Cultural Arts Center an outreach program of First Night. Each summer we impact over 400 youth with a creative exploration of the arts!

First Night Monterey has been a vital part of our Monterey community for the past 25 years. Each New Year’s Eve, this city looks forward to a creative, safe, peaceful year-end celebration of the arts that encompasses the entire day, from noon to midnight. Professional entertainment is on display in dozens of downtown locations, performed by artists, poets and musicians.

But First Night is much more. Its summer Outreach program brings art, music and computer skills to area youth, from Greenfield to Watsonville. In Monterey, alone, children from 8 through high school can take week-long instruction from professional artists in a variety of mediums. In Greenfield, migrant children are offered free day-long art camps. Their finished products are then displayed on New Year’s Eve in our downtown location.

As a City Council member I give my support to First Night!
