Friends of the Marina Library

Mission

“To build a vibrant association of volunteers and supporters dedicated to the Marina Library, to foster community participation, create activities and programs and provide financial support for the library services, materials and facilities.”

The Big Idea

Friends of the Marina Library builds a happier community by investing in the essential services offered by the Marina branch of Monterey County Free Libraries. Marina is the eighth most diverse city in California, which makes programs like Dads Read, this nonprofit’s Big Idea, so important. Dads Read invites fathers of diverse backgrounds to read aloud stories of cultural or personal significance to a group of children in an outdoor block party setting. Donations through MCGives! will refresh this program with new books and toys, making it into a recurring monthly event.

"As a young volunteer, its nice to see kids having a role model that looks like them reading stories. Kids get to hear from fathers- some might not even have one around - but it makes everyone grateful for that time!"

- Chloe Allison
