Loaves, Fishes & Computers' (LFC) mission is to help individuals and families in our community overcome the digital and economic divides by providing low-to-no-cost computer systems, digital literacy classes, hands-on technology workshops, and technology assistance/computer repair for low-income individuals, families, seniors, veterans, children, people with disabilities and nonprofit organizations, while providing volunteers an encouraging and gratifying place to learn about Computer Science and Information Technology, and, with the help of academic partnering organizations, engage in exciting, new education and career opportunities.
Since 2009, Loaves, Fishes & Computers has provided 7,530 computers to individuals and families. The nonprofit’s research shows five people per household use a computer, meaning 37,680 people directly affected. They teach hundreds of low-income individuals tech skills, and hundreds of multigenerational and multicultural volunteers learn business, administrative and computer-refurbishing skills in the process. Loaves, Fishes & Computers hopes to continue closing the economic and digital divides through their digital literacy classes and workshops, creating education and career opportunities for volunteers as they expand their practical skill sets to become viable applicants for local businesses.
There was a mother with her kids who needed a computer for school. With our volunteer work to refurbish computers, we made that a smooth transition for this family. I wouldn’t have ever experienced this had I not been with Loaves, Fishes & Computers and its wonderful team. I hope one day to be more giving.
