Delivering Meals, Nurturing Hearts & Nourishing Homebound Seniors
Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley (MOWSV) is invested in building more collaborative projects with other nonprofits. Recently they began working with neighboring Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula (MOWMP) to launch a pilot program serving locally prepared meals to clients in North County. The pilot has been such a success that they expanded it to include all rural clients, and the goal is to have the staff at the Sally Griffin Active Living Center in Pacific Grove—where MOWMP is based—prepare all of MOWSV’s meals served. Another collaboration, Art and About, launched in June, partnering with the Arts Council for Monterey County to get musicians to accompany volunteers doing meal-delivery routes, bringing live musical performances to homebound clients. They also work with the SPCA for Monterey County to provide pet food, the Food Bank for Monterey County to provide fresh produce and Monterey County Free Libraries to deliver books.
All the folks who deliver my meals are courteous and professional. They do not treat me like a burden or a problem. They always ask how I’m doing or if I’m OK.
