To provide an environment where curiosity and creativity flourish, while both children and adults learn together through experience.
There is no shortage of research supporting the benefits of bringing children to museums, encouraging curiosity and initiating lifelong learning. Exposure to hands-on exhibits encourages questions, boosts language development and sparks ideas. Family bonding is fostered, too. After an extremely successful two months at the CSUMB Center for Arts and Culture in Salinas this past summer, MY Museum is ready to take the interactive MY Town exhibit on the road. MY Town provides an environment where kids play and learn, teaching them about the world and modeling characteristics found in healthy, vibrant communities. Children hop on bikes and travel through “town” while learning traffic and bike safety skills. Books are available to foster reading and language development, available for families to take home. There is a makerspace, where interdisciplinary learning, inquiry, risk-taking, crafting, tinkering and creativity are encouraged. The Building Zone also has a spot as an incredible play system for unlocking children’s creative spirit through design. MY Town hopes to visit South County in 2020.
Thank you for creating this special place for the kiddos in Salinas! I’m so sad it is temporary, but grateful our kids got the chance to enjoy it during the summer.
