Fostering the passion and development of local youth through the performing arts, where talents and life skills may grow in an inspiring and nurturing environment.
Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre’s signature program is a traditional production of The Nutcracker, featuring more than 100 local dancers ranging in age from 5 to 18. Instilling values of community service is an important part of the nonprofit’s mission, and throughout the Nutcracker season, dancers participate in community outreach programs at local elementary schools, senior centers and other nonprofits such as Rancho Cielo, Jacob’s Heart and MY Museum. Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre is expanding its outreach to local youth to provide more opportunities for underrepresented youth to participate in the performing arts. The main strategies include financial aid for children to participate in The Nutcracker, a free performance for nearly 700 elementary students, and outreach performances to local K-12 schools and nonprofits.
Giving young people the opportunity to participate in the performing arts is highly beneficial to their development, and that is why we have partnered with Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre to bring dancers from The Nutcracker production to perform at the museum. We hope our young visitors are inspired to appreciate ballet as an art form, but more importantly, see themselves as someone who can also take ballet or take to the stage.
