The Monterey Peninsula College Foundation creates opportunities for students and enhances the learning environment at MPC by fundraising and friend raising. The philosophy that "education is the means by which people may reach their full potential" drives the Foundation's enrichment programs and commitment to student success.
The Big Idea
IDEA: Based on the theory that a college education breaks the cycle of poverty and leads to better employment options for those from disadvantaged backgrounds, the MPC Foundation provides scholarships and student support programs that give young
adults the opportunity to experience a world they may not have thought possible. Students with college-going potential who live in challenging, unsupportive environments often encounter financial barriers and a lack of encouragement that keeps them from pursuing a higher education. The Foundation’s Evans College Incentive Program helps students overcome those roadblocks, beginning with a collaborative process in which local educators nominate students for participation. Once enrolled, CIP provides a support network that encourages students to stay on track through academic counseling, personal mentoring and scholarships. CIP students receive financial assistance, allowing them to work fewer hours and concentrate on their courses.
I really liked the extra support that the MPC Foundation’s Evans College Incentive Program gave me throughout my journey in MPC. The program always made me feel welcomed and I knew that if I ever had any questions they were the people that I had to go to. Thanks to the program’s support, I was able to have books and worry less about money while attending school. Without that, my accomplishments wouldn’t be possible. I would like to earn a BA in Behavioral Science and one day in the future, I want to help the world become a better place. I am extremely grateful for the Evans program and all of the people that donated funds because thanks to them, I will be able to achieve my dreams.
