MPC Theatre Company Charitable Trust

It is the purpose and goal of the Monterey Peninsula Community Theatre Company Charitable Trust to support, finance and enable the MPC Theatre Company in all aspects of educational theatrical productions.  The Trust will do this by providing funding for student scholarships as well as stipends for technical and design artists and supporting materials costs and marketing associated with productions.

The Big Idea

MPC Theatre Company performs a lot of beloved classics with a contemporary spin, as well as contemporary plays. In their upcoming 66th season, they are producing a New Works Festival—as in new works, and new people. The festival is a partnership with the MPC Theater Department as well as the drama departments within Seaside and Monterey high schools, and will include three 45-minute sections—one from each school. Each section will feature an original piece written and directed by students under the leadership of the MPC Theater Chair Teddy Eck. High school students will also serve as stage managers, design team members, technical crew members and do other production team jobs as needed. The acting company for this production will comprise students from local high schools including Pacific Grove, Carmel, Marina and Salinas. They hope to offer free tickets, plus fund transportation needs of students who are participating in and attending the festival.

I owe my admission to grad school to the MPC Theatre Company. I took Acting 1 in the spring of 2016, where Laura Cote taught me everything from theater terminology to character development and scene study. In addition to our lectures, we also had rehearsal time where we collaborated with directing students. This lab component not only allowed me to apply what I learned in class, but also gave me hands-on training. Laura was also strict about theater etiquette, which influences my work ethic today. I began a three-year MFA program in acting at the New School in New York City this fall.

We Did It, Together!

Monterey County Gives! was created to support the local nonprofit community's Big Ideas (and programs). And thanks to your participation and generosity, Monterey County Gives! raised over $5.3 million for 163 local nonprofits in 2019.

MCGives! has now raised and contributed over $27 million dollars since its inception ten years ago. That’s astounding. And wonderful.

Look for the 2020 Monterey County Gives! RFP (for applying nonprofits) in the Monterey County Weekly this June/July. Monterey County Gives! 2020 campaign kicks off in early November.

Thank you to all our Partners, Sponsors, nonprofit Board Directors, staff and volunteers — and each of our 4,902 donors. We did it, together.
