Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Cal State Monterey Bay (OLLI)

Mission

The mission of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, an educational program for those 50 and better, is to offer fresh, stimulating courses that challenge the mind. We serve lifelong learners who are eager to explore traditional and new areas of knowledge — without the stress of exams and grades.

The Big Idea

The Covid-19 pandemic has thrust many organizations into a virtual world, with blurred boundaries and a glut of content. Many people looking for enrichment have been besieged with online learning opportunities. OLLI’s Shine-a-Light Project aims to focus attention on local offerings through collaborations with Monterey County-based non-profit organizations that value lifelong learning and purposeful aging. In the past, in-person gatherings have been at the heart of OLLI’s program; now OLLI hopes to generate a similar level of social engagement—in the virtual realm—to benefit the community looking to continue learning.

The OLLI program is a gift. In a large community, it brings together people who value education, who have curiosity, and who want to continue to change the world as well as enrich their own personal world. Imagine how difficult it would be to find similar souls without the OLLI magnet, the OLLI velcro.
