The mission of OLLI@CSUMB is to create and facilitate educational programs that deliver the joys and benefits of lifelong learning to older adults in Monterey County. Through over 130 university-level courses each year, OLLI connects lifelong learners with top-tier instructors in subjects ranging from the arts and science to history, politics, and wellness.
OLLI doesn’t just serve older adults—it uplifts the entire community by keeping our members engaged, inspired and connected. And a key part in supporting learners across the county is keeping our fees affordable. OLLI offers outstanding value, with prices for courses and workshops significantly lower than one would find for similar offerings. Despite rising costs over the past several years for facilities and instructors, OLLI has not increased course fees since 2021. With your help, we can sustain our affordable pricing and ensure that lifelong learning is always within reach.
OLLI@CSUMB benefits Monterey County by offering educational programs open to everyone, with a focus on those 50 and better. With over 900 members, and faculty from various local institutions, we provide diverse and affordable learning options. Our offerings include single lectures, extended courses, and free events on subjects from literature to science, all taught by esteemed educators. By partnering with local nonprofits, we enhance the collective impact on the entire Monterey County community, reinforcing the concept of "stronger together." Programs are available in-person and via Zoom, ensuring flexibility and broad accessibility.
For nearly 20 years, one of the great joys of my days has been teaching for OLLI@CSUMB. Students bring a rare level of focus, curiosity and eagerness to form one of the truest communities I’ve ever been a part of!
