Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)

Mission

The mission of OLLI@CSUMB is to create and facilitate educational programs that deliver the joys and benefits of lifelong learning. OLLI celebrates the insatiable curiosity of older adults and their ongoing quest to learn about, engage with, and contribute to the world around them.

The Big Idea

OLLI@CSUMB has always looked for ways to foster relationships with neighboring community partners. This year, we’d like to take this commitment to community even further by supporting nonprofits and small businesses via special events featuring Peninsula musicians. Via our considerable membership, we’ll provide a captive and engaged audience. Nonprofits and businesses garner much needed revenue and exposure; musicians are paid to express their gifts; and, the OLLI community reaps the benefits of both. It’s a win-win-win for all involved. Initial venues will include Monterey History and Art at Stanton Center, Hidden Valley Seminars, and the Carl Cherry Center, as well as local breweries and coffeehouses. Each event will feature a venue in a specific city, and the goal is to bring our members to as many cities as possible across the county. While we will start with music, future events will feature art, performance, food and wine, and more.

Among my many passions is the study of brain health and I can’t think of anything more important for the brain than continuing one’s intellectual journey and maintaining those important connections within. Whether it be through literature, music, art, science, or one of many other available areas of interest, OLLI@CSUMB continues to be the perfect recipe for a healthy brain with incredible courses, top-notch instructors, and a friendly and engaged community. Life simply wouldn’t be the same without my OLLI.
