The Pacific Grove Public Library Friends and Foundation helps ensure that our library is a thriving community center for discovery and lifelong learning.
Our Big Idea is to support healthy community connections at the Library with
intergenerational programs and resources. All ages use the Pacific Grove Public Library, yet most programs are for separate age groups. To combat loneliness and ageism and to build community, we’ll bring together people of different generations for shared experiences at the Library. We envision art therapy classes with local artists, to be followed with an art exhibit in the Library's Hauk Gallery. Other ideas include wellness activities highlighting yoga and healing sound baths; intergenerational workshops with local partners such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Montage/Ohana and others to provide support around mental health for all ages; having a Farmers’ Market representative present talks on nutrition and the health benefits of growing and eating fresh produce; and bringing therapy dogs onsite at key times like final exam week for companionship and stress relief.
Pacific Grove Library is the heart of our town that resonates with its residents of all ages. It is a heartwarming sight to see little toddlers buried in books in one nook and senior citizens catching up with news in another. One hopes that our library will continue to be the butterfly of our town, giving wings to ideas, knowledge, and much more to spread peace, love, and harmony.
