Papillon Center for Loss & Transition

Mission

Papillon is dedicated to building healthier communities by providing professionally led, compassionate services for individuals, families, and children experiencing loss and transition.

The Big Idea

Papillon is dedicated to building healthier communities by providing professional, compassionate services for individuals, families and children experiencing loss and transition. Their goal is to expand their services to the Latino community by hiring part-time Spanish-speaking facilitators for support groups, onsite call assistance and our Good Grief for Kids+Teens (GGFK+T) program. They would also like to hire some facilitators permanently instead of relying entirely on volunteers, although their volunteer facilitators are all professionals, with occupations as therapists, nurses, social workers and other grief-trained individuals.

Losing my husband of 43 years was unbearably painful. So much so that I wanted to die, too, to ease the pain. Thankfully, my husband’s doctor referred me to Papillon. From that first group session I learned I was not alone—others have loved as deeply as I have, survived this horrible nightmare, and found purpose in life despite the loss. It gave me hope, and each time I went I would come away with new tools, thoughts and ideas to help myself and my family. I look back on the last year and can’t believe where I am now, thanks to Papillon. I want to live and share my journey and hopes and desires for the future with others. Papillon gave me the skills to cope and the desire to live life to the fullest as I remember my wonderful husband through the memories we made together. My children are thankful to Papillon for giving them back their Mom.

We Did It, Together!

Monterey County Gives! was created to support the local nonprofit community's Big Ideas (and programs). And thanks to your participation and generosity, Monterey County Gives! raised over $5.3 million for 163 local nonprofits in 2019.

MCGives! has now raised and contributed over $27 million dollars since its inception ten years ago. That’s astounding. And wonderful.

Look for the 2020 Monterey County Gives! RFP (for applying nonprofits) in the Monterey County Weekly this June/July. Monterey County Gives! 2020 campaign kicks off in early November.

Thank you to all our Partners, Sponsors, nonprofit Board Directors, staff and volunteers — and each of our 4,902 donors. We did it, together.
