Monterey County Pops!

Mission

The Monterey County Pops! is an orchestra dedicated to bringing pops and patriotic music performed by professional musicians to the residents and visitors of Monterey County free-of-charge, and to strategically identify, engage and educate under-served youth of Monterey County.

The Big Idea

Monterey Count Pops! is exploring plans to expand its free professional concerts engaging underserved young performers throughout the Salinas Valley.

The demand for Monterey County Pops! programs to engage young underserved performers in the production of free live professional concerts throughout the Salinas Valley continues to grow! For 2017-18 we will be adding new concerts at the Armory in Salinas featuring young musicians from Alisal Center for the Fine Arts and with the Greenfield Public Schools music program, in addition to our ever-popular Salute to Veterans in King City, which features Ballet Folklorio and the Monterey County Dance Theater. We think it’s time to go bigger! Our big idea is to explore expanding our concert offerings throughout the Salinas Valley. We are meeting this fall with community representatives to identify opportunities and determine support for our expanded program.

Saturday’s Concert was great and we feel it is important that we continue to cultivate a relationship with the Monterey County Pops! orchestra. Our staff and students benefited from this experience. Playing along with professional musicians and exposing them to classical and traditional music is great for (the students’) musical and professional development. We appreciate the time that you invested working with our instructors. We have discussed the development of (a) youth orchestra in the past, after Saturday’s community concert. We feel that we should begin the process and develop plan to do so! Thank you!
