The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
The Salvation Army in Monterey Peninsula includes a range of services provided for those experiencing poverty. On the Peninsula, Day Camp, Summer Camps and Character Building programs are offered at low to no-cost for children. Every day, Monday through Friday, 120 hot meals are prepared at the Main Kitchen and served at our Good Samaritan Center in Sand City as well as through our Hope Mobile in Monterey. The Good Samaritan Center also provides access to showers (now newly renovated) laundry-care and food boxes.
In Seaside, 14 fully furnished townhome-like units are made available to families in need. These families also participate in our unique “Pathway of Hope” program which enables clients to self-select goals toward self-sufficiency, giving them a better life after they complete the program. Four family-size, studio-units are also available on an emergency basis for families experiencing homelessness.
The Salvation Army in Monterey County has been at work for over 100 years! We have always striven to bring hope and help to those who need it most. Currently, the primary focus in this community is helping families with children achieve stable housing. We also focus on helping some of the chronically unhoused on the peninsula with basic needs and referrals for longer term transformation. Our hope is to see every human being live up to the dignity God placed in them
I wish everyone knew about this place. It’s so fun!
