The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
The Salvation Army was established in London
in 1865, and since 1895 has been serving the
Monterey County Area, offering practical
support and safety net to people in need. The
Salvation Army in Monterey County
provides a variety of social services, including:
• Rental/Mortgage and Utility Assistance
• Food Assistance
• Housing and Emergency Shelters.
The cornerstone program is the Sabu Shake
Sr. Good Samaritan Center, which provides
basic needs for up to 150 people daily. In
addition to food distribution to seniors and low-income households and individuals, the Center provides individuals and families experiencing
homelessness with hot meals both in-center and off-site, showers, a clothing closet, lockers, telephone use, laundry facilities, mail service, case management, employment and housing search assistance, as well as agency referrals.
I love knowing that my children have a safe place to go afterschool every day. Knowing that my kids are here getting help with their homework and a healthy meal is one less burden I have to worry about while I'm at work.
