The Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps

Mission

The Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps serves individuals from Marina to Big Sur and from Carmel Valley Village to the Highway 68 corridor. We provide comfort, care, safety-net social services, emergency family shelter and transitional housing. Our educational programs include pre-school and after school classes, and our youth center hosts junior high school students weekly

The Big Idea

Aquire property from school board, create and construct neighborhood youth recreation area in Seaside -Sand City area.

In Agreement and support from Monterey Department of Education and the City of Seaside, our idea is to acquire ownership of the 1/4 acre of surplus land to create and construct a Neighborhood outdoor Youth Recreation Center for use by visitors to the Salvation Army Youth Center and host neighborhood youth on weekends and nights.

After she was accepted into the Salvation Army’s transitional housing program , I began to pick up skills she had never used before. “I learned to manage income,” she said. “I learned how to cut down on expenses. Like we used to go to McDonald’s, but I learned to make cheaper food at home.” Now she’s working, and, most importantly, living in a place of her own. I buy clothes for kids and pay the rent and bills “But it’s nice to be able to do these things,” she said. “Having money to make ends meet. ”She has nothing but praise for The Salvation Army housing program. The best thing about her life today, she says, is “being independent and just trusting myself.”
