Youth Music Monterey County

Mission

Youth Music Monterey County's mission is to inspire excellence in individual students and enrich our community by providing young people with opportunities to participate in, and gain greater understanding of, music and its performance.

The Big Idea

YMMC celebrates its 30th birthday this year! Support from our community has helped YMMC to reach this milestone, and provides us the means by which we can continue to reach future generations of Monterey County youth. Born through the merging of two local music programs in 1988, YMMC has provided thousands of young people throughout Monterey County orchestral training, free string instruction, and small ensemble coaching. YMMC programs have been developed with a focus on excellence, assuring our students graduate from our programs well prepared for future endeavors in music and beyond. Orchestra students receive up to 80 hours instruction each season under the guidance of a professional conductor. No student is excluded for inability to afford tuition or an instrument. South County Strings students receive 2 hours of free string instruction each week during regular school hours with skilled string instructors. Our Chamber, Brass and Woodwind ensembles rehearse weekly with regarded teachers. In 2018-19, YMMC students will be prepared to present a total of 25 concerts in their schools, at local community events and in professional venues for a combined audience of over 7000.

"I have become a better musician and a better person."
