Youth Music Monterey County

Mission

Youth Music Monterey County’s mission is to inspire excellence in individual students and enrich our community by providing young people with opportunities to participate in, and gain greater understanding of, music and its performance.

The Big Idea

Youth Music Monterey’s South County Strings brings free string instruction and low cost rental instruments to up to 200 students in south Monterey County communities.

YMMC South County Strings will provide up to 200 students ages 8-13 with 2 hours free group string instruction/week at beginning and intermediate levels during regular school hours at six south Monterey County school sites, where the opportunity to study music is otherwise sparse or non-existent. Students will be equipped with good-quality low-cost rental violins, violas, and cellos. Students will be prepared to perform in at least 3 concerts each season, for audiences of 50-700. String students will participate in workshops with visiting musicians, and receive free and low-cost tickets to other music events. Adequate instrument rental assistance will be provided to assure that no student is excluded for inability to afford an instrument.

Being able to play my violin with other musicians makes me feel so happy!
