YOSAL's mission is to transform the lives of our youth and our communities through inspiration, discipline and performance of classical ensemble music.
Our big idea is to increase service access to the youngest members of our community with "Early Years Music Education Program". This new program is designed for children from two to six years old. It will engage parents and young children with a developmentally appropriate, interactive curriculum program.
YOSAL is so much more than a youth orchestra. Our goals are to make classical music accessible to the city's underserved youth and to provide a safe and inspirational after-school program in which they can also access mental health resources, such as counseling and music therapy. YOSAL provides instruments, weekly music classes, ensemble rehearsals, choir, music theory, and music history classes, all free of charge
"YOSAL is a place where you don't have to be afraid to be yourself, and you get to meet new friends while learning music in a fun and educational way. Every year YOSAL creates cool events for us to be involved in and we get to perform in front of a crowd. Even though it may make you nervous, the feeling of everyone applauding and smiling at you makes you confident. Also, YOSAL is not all about music; sometimes we go on fun field trips, too. I'm proud to say that I am part of YOSAL."
