Our mission is to inspire discovery, wonder, and stewardship of our cultural and natural world. We support conservation, scientific literacy, co-curation, and deep learning towards a resilient community and sustainable future.
Recognized as the gold standard for museum excellence for 50 years, American Alliance of Museums (AAM) accreditation signifies a museum’s quality and credibility to the museum field, governments, and the public. As an AAM-accredited museum since 1972, we uphold the integrity of our exhibits, steward collections held in the public trust, and serve as an inspiring educational resource for our community.
Your donation supports our strategic plan, development of a new interpretive master plan, updates to our collections management policy, and our upcoming reaccreditation. With your help, we will continue to meet the evolving needs of our community.
By striving for excellence, we strengthen our role as a trusted community resource, improve the quality of our operations, and distinguish ourselves among peer institutions. Thank you for supporting the Museum at a time when public funding is increasingly uncertain. Together, we will continue to evolve, educate, and inspire.
As a regional museum, we serve all of Monterey County from kindergarten to seniors with a variety of educational opportunities and outreach programs. Our field trips see over 8,000 kids per year from nearly every County school district, taking younger kids to the Museum and older ones to their local watersheds and beaches. Our outreach goes to every free library multiple times per year, as well as many festivals, farmer’s markets, Greenfield Science Workshop events, and more, and it’s all done bilingually. We offer free admission to everyone who lives in Monterey County, and offer free bilingual events at least once a month during the school year for families to come and learn in a fun and safe space. Adult learning opportunities include various lecture series.
In 2008, the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History was saved from closing its doors by a small group of dedicated community members, helping to ensure the history and legacy of this amazing place will live for future generations. Simply stated: we love our environment, we love our community, and we love our museum. Let's show a little love to this incredible museum that serves our community so well by participating in this year's MCGives campaign.
