“RotaCare is a volunteer-driven and patient-centered provider of free health care for the uninsured and underserved in our community.”
RotaCare Monterey Clinic provides free health care to uninsured/underserved residents of Monterey County. The clinic normally operates out of the Seaside Family Health Center. Our team of volunteers is composed of medical providers (doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants), nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, clerical staff, Spanish interpreters and a stress counselor. Patients with urgent and chronic conditions (including diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol) are provided free medical visits, including diagnostic testing through the generosity of Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula, as well as medication management, diabetic supplies, blood pressure monitors, body weight scales, specialty and social service referrals, all at no cost. Each week a team of medical providers, as well as nurses, interpreters, clerical and IT staff, and the Clinic Operations Manager provide telehealth visits. We have resumed in-person visits for patients needing hands-on evaluation and care and plan to increase our capacity through volunteer recruitment efforts.
I have been a type 2 diabetic for 15 years. When I came to California 2 years ago, I didn’t know what to do. Thankfully I found RotaCare through the mobile clinic. The RotaCare staff opened their hearts to me from the beginning. Claudia was the first person I spoke with who helped me become a patient. Dr. Thompson, Dr. Sabah, the interpreters who help me with my appointments have all been great people. I feel that when one is sick one wants to be given love, understanding and treated with patience. All of the staff have those gifts that God has given them. The truth is that I am greatly grateful for the support and help that they have given me when I have needed them. Thank you very much for all you do for me and so many people. I am very grateful for all the support.
