The Epicenter

Mission

The Epicenter exists to empower at-risk and systems involved youth ages 16-24 to flourish by connecting them to community resources that provide opportunities for equity and hope in order to improve youth outcomes in Monterey County

The Big Idea

The Epicenter works to connect young people ages 16 to 24 with community resources that will provide opportunities to thrive in Monterey County. The nonprofit works primarily with youth who face challenges, such as experience with systems like foster care or the courts, and who benefit from extra support. As young people are emerging from the pandemic, during which many of them struggled to maintain academic skills in an online-only environment, The Epicenter’s Big Idea is to bolster support through its Peer2Peer tutoring program. Specifically, the nonprofit is raising funds to offer stipends to peer tutors who work with their classmates – benefitting both the tutors seeking additional employment, and the student getting educational support.

"The Epicenter has taught me to be more confident and to share my voice. It has given me that sense of family and support that I had not had prior to coming to the center. They helped me get my driver's license, and helped me with my Hiset (GED)."
