VNA Community Services (VNACS)

Mission

The Visiting Nurse Association Community Services (VNACS) promotes wellness in our community with a focus on prevention and wellness education.

The Big Idea

Monterey County Gives helped us provide free, school-based Tdap immunization clinics to 6th-grade students. With the community's support, we covered 4 middle schools in North Monterey County, Walter Colton Middle, Marina-Los Arboles Middle, Seaside Middle, Gonzales Unified School District and the Soledad District office (400 vaccinations). That program was such a BIG success, we’d like to expand it. Our clinics helped schools to comply with state law AB354 (requiring all students entering 7th grade to show proof of a Tdap immunization prior to the start of school). VNACS helped keep students in class, which also helped public schools receive critical state funds based on attendance. Our free school clinics are especially valuable to low-income families: children are protected without busy working parents having to schedule a separate and costly pediatrician visit. With support from Monterey County Gives, we will expand our clinics to serve additional area schools.

The VNA Community Services offered MPUSD students a great benefit by providing a required immunization for entry into 7th grade, at three school sites, at no cost. Parents were extremely appreciative of this service. The VNA team of nurses were professional, knowledgeable, and caring. With support from Monterey County Gives, we look forward to working with VNACS in the future to keep our students healthy and in school.
