The Pacific Grove Pops Orchestra is a premiere non-profit inter-generational community orchestra founded to support and engage local student musicians of all ages through rigorous advanced study and performance with award-winning music educators and professionals. The orchestra seeks to provide opportunities for evolving musicians across life’s spectrum to learn, grow, and play richly diverse repertoire together in community concerts, enriching the musicians’ lives as well as the cultural life of the broader community.
The P.G. Pops Orchestra welcomes student musicians of all ages. Since the orchestra’s founding, this experiment in intergenerational inclusiveness has resulted in a highly successful nonprofit community orchestra. Musicians range from middle-schoolers to retirees, with a rare opportunity for people across generations to get together and cooperate on a creative endeavor. Youth and seniors learn from each other in rehearsing and performing. Funds for P.G. Pops enable outreach to young people and access to seniors on fixed incomes, providing opportunities for rigorous study with award winning music educators and professionals to evolving musicians who would otherwise be unable to participate and contribute.
Since its inception in 2013, I have seen just how important the P.G. Pops Orchestra has become in the community and how music can serve as an incredible uniting force. It is truly amazing to see so many people join together in their love of music, no matter their age, musical skill, race, gender or any other differences.
